The room was…
even now, after quite some time has passed, I do not find the right words to describe it.
…It was the magical continuation of the journey down the hallway.
At that time I hadn’t yet read “Alice in Wonderland”, but when I think back now, the sensations that flooded my mind were comparable with those that little Alice experienced when she entered the rabbit-hole. It was like being transported to a different time, in a different Universe.
“It is one of our best rooms, Ana Kamburoff,” William Brandon’s voice reached me from far away.
“Most of our guests like the vintage style, and enjoy its comfort,” he continued while I slowly found my way back to reality.
“The bathroom, however, had to be renovated and offers all the standards you’ll need for a pleasant stay.”
He waited a moment until I was fully back again and smiled at me with that unreadable face.
“I leave you alone now, Ana Kamburoff. Let’s meet for dinner and some business talk in…,” he paused slightly to make sure that I was listening, and as if he had to consider how long it would take me to prepare, “…one hour.”
It sounded like an invitation and an order at once, and there was no doubt that he expected me to be on time, and prepared for…dinner.
That was serious and formal.
I had no time to lose if I didn't want to over-strain his patience and hospitality. I was glad that Karen had prepared me for occasions like that and that I knew what to do.
While I was happy to finally get out of the heavy boots and pants, I quickly checked to see if there were any new messages from headquarters. As there weren't any, I could fully concentrate on my preparations, and rushed to the bathroom which was, in deed, like brand-new.
It was simple, and didn't have the latest in technology, but it literally appeared to be unused, and was as clean as a surgical suite. The almost clinical atmosphere it had, and the contrast to the out-of-this-world impression of my sleeping room, helped a lot in bringing me back to Earth.
I was able to focus on my cover story; what I would say to my new landlord, and more importantly, what I would not. While preparing myself mentally, I still enjoyed washing off the road dust, and was delighted by the pleasure of a strong hot shower after having missed one for such a long time.
I felt clean and fresh after the shower, and my thoughts were focused and structured again after the strange confusion that had been triggered by the hotel’s atmosphere.
A last look in the mirror was my confirmation that I would have the mental power, and the energy, to accomplish my mission successfully.
Little did I know.

This panel is again the result of some lovely discussions and friendly disputes with my counselors.
The actual structure was not the topic. It was clear that this panel should show Ana’s hotel room and the beginning of her preparation for the dinner with William Brandon.
The debate was about the level of nudity I should go for
As a result, you see something that is different from my initial plans, but something that now makes a lot more sense in terms of the overall story-flow, and in terms of what to expect in the future.
I hope you like the “compromise”
